Abstract

1,193,998. Herbicides containing carbamates. SCHERING A.G. 21 Aug., 1967 [10 Sept., 1966], No. 38442/67. Heading A5E. A herbicidal preparation of improved effect and selectivity comprises a surface active agent and a substituted carbamoyloxyphenyl-carbamate of formula wherein R 1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon or cycloalkyl group which may be substituted by a heterocycle, or an aryl or aralkyl group which may be substituted by halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, or alkylmercapto; R 2 is H or alkyl, or R 1 +R 2 together with the N is a heterocycle which may contain further N or O; R 3 is an aliphatic group optionally halogenated; and R 4 is H or alkyl; the proportion by weight of carbamate to surface active agent being within the range of from 1:10 to 1:0.4. A solid or liquid vehicle also may be present. Numerous carbamates are listed, those used in the examples being Me and Et-N-[3-(N'-(3'-methylphenyl)- carbamoyloxy)-phenyl]-carbamates, Et-N-[3- (N'-phenyl and cyclohexyl carbamoyloxy)- phenyl]-carbamates and Me-N-[3-(N'-t-Bu carbamoyloxy)-phenyl]-carbamate, Suitable surface active agents are ethoxylated isooctylphenol, ethoxylated octylphenol, nonylphenol, alkylphenol/polyglycol ether, tributylphenol/ polyglycol ether, alkylarylsulphonate, alkylaryl polyether alcohol, isotridecyl alcohol, alkyl sulphate, lauryl ether sulphate, fatty alcohol/ ethylene oxide condensate, ethoxylated castor oil, polyhydroxy-ethylene alkyl ether, ethoxylated polyhydroxypropylene, sorbitol ester and lauryl alcohol/polyglycol ether acetal.
