1,193,957. Condensation of steam; turbine plant. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., 22 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 38540/67. Divided out of 1 193 956. Heading B1B. Steam from two or more exhausts of a turbine plant is condensed in two or more directcontact condensers, disposed at different levels, each condenser (except the lowermost) being provided with a plurality of outlets for the mixture of condensate and cooling-water at different levels over the height of the condenser, and each outlet being connected to a cooling- water inlet of the condenser at the next lower level. Exhaust steam enters the system shown through two inlets 82. The upper condenser 80 is supplied with cooling-water through inlets 86, waterboxes 83, and spray-nozzles 87. A mixture of cooling-water and condensate collects in the three troughs 88A and in the bottom of the condenser 80, and flows through four pipes 88 into the waterboxes 84 of the lower condenser 81. The water is sprayed into condenser 81 through nozzles 87; and the mixture of cooling- water and condensate is withdrawn from the system through outlet 85.
