Foot and leg deformity, treating.-In orthopµ- dic appliances for use in cases of drop foot of the type wherein pivoted spring-controlled members are attached to the leg and the boot, the lower pivoted members are attached to brackets adapted to be secured to the heel and to another part of the boot whereby cutting of the heel is avoided. Means also are provided for varying the tension or compression of the spring and for adjusting the length of the pivoted members. The means for securing the lower members to the heel of the boot comprise approximately right-angled brackets 6, the plates 7 of which are formed with holes 10 for attachment by screws to the side of the heel and the plates 8 are provided with flanges 9 for attachment to the waist of the boot. The upper and lower pivoted members 2, 3 are screwed into lugs 12, 11 carried respectively by a leg strap 1 and the brackets 6, lock-nuts 14, 13 being provided for securing purposes, thus allowing adjustment of length to ba effected. Compression or tension springs 5 are carried on pins 16 of brackets 15 adjustably secured by screws 18 which may engage grooves in the members 2, 3. Alternatively, the brackets 15 may be fixed and screws provided therein for adjusting the compression or tension of the spring. Spikes may be formed on the brackets 6 to act as additional securing, devices.
