Abstract

1,193,336. Making bags; seaming non- metallic sheet material. S. LEONHARDT. 21 Aug., 1967 [12 April, 1966], No. 38421/67. Headings B5D and B5K. Feeding the web.-The welded and parted end of a folded thermoplastics film 7 is carried between retracted welding heads 23, 28 by a guide 16 which moves from the position illustrated to film feed device 22. In the form illustrated, the guide comprises spaced plates 17, 18 mounted on a pair of oscillating arms 30 and provided with notched leading edges to accommodate feed rollers 22. The feed rollers co-operate with endless feeding bands 20. The film is fed by a driven roller 13 and a backing roller 14. Welding heads.-The weld is effected by a stationary heated element 26 flanked by spring- biased clamping jaws 25 which co-operate with reciprocating jaws 28 on the lower head. The lower jaws are first moved sufficiently to clamp the film in position to be heated radiantly by the element 16. A subsequent further movement carries the film against the heated element 26. Driving mechanism.-The welding head and the moving film guide 16 are driven from cams on a shaft (33) (Fig. 4, not shown) which also carries an eccentric driving a lever (49) connected by a chain (51) to drive the bag conveyer belts 20(1) through a one-way clutch (51). Flat plastics bags.-The film is folded with opposite walls of unequal length to leave a closure flap.
