Abstract

1,193,127. Drying organic liquids. W. R. GRACE & CO. 1 Aug., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 35358/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] Water-containing organic liquids are dried by passing them through a drying bed of partially dehydrated crystalline aluminosilicate particles having a size from 50 to 200 microns and a Roller Test attrition index of from 5 to 35, and recovering liquid freed of water from the bed. The organic liquids may be passed down a packed or loose bed of the particles or up a packed bed. An example uses ethyl alcohol and a zeolite. Other substances which may be dried include other alcohols, acetal, aldehydes, acetaldehydeammonia, formic acid, chloral, chlorohydrin, chloroacetone and pyridines. Regeneration may be effected by a stream of gas at 110- 500‹ C., or by steaming and calcining in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.
