Heading A5E. {Also in Division C2] A herbicidal composition comprises a first compound of the general formula: wherein A is H, Cl, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkenyl; D is H, halogen, alkyl or C 1-4 alkenyl; E is H or Cl, provided that a maximum of one of A and D is H, A is Cl only when D is Cl and E is Cl only when A and D are both Cl; R<SP>1</SP> is H or alkyl; R is alkyl and Z is C 1 -C 4 alkylene, and the alkali metal salts of the compounds wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H; and at least one second compound selected from the following: wherein X., X 2 , X 3 , X 4 and X 5 are independently .selected from halogen, .alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, NO z , NH 2 , H and phenyl, provided a maximum of two of X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , X 4 and X 5 are H; 'and Y is OH, -(CH 2 ) n COON or COOH, where n is I -3 and 'the salts, amides and esters thereof. II Herbicidally active carbamates and thiocarbamartes; III Herbicidally active .s-triazines, ureas, benzonitriles, 2,6-dihalo-4-cyanophenyl esters of C 1-4 aliphatic acids, and tniobenzamides; IV Compounds of the formula wherein R<SP>11</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl V Componds of the formula: wherein R<SP>11</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl VI 3,4-dichloropropionanilide; and VII 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid. An inert carrier may also be present. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,005,049.
