Abstract

1,191,596. Shelves. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 22 July, 1968 [25 July, 1967], No. 34888/68. Heading A4B. A refrigerator shelf 1 with a variable area supporting surface comprises spaced slats 4 slidably engaged by apertures 6 in their ends 5 on supports 7 of a frame 3, adjacent ends of adjacent slots 4 being movable towards each other against a spring bias. In one embodiment (Fig. 2), helical springs (8) are disposed between the ends of adjacent slats 4. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the spring bias is provided by a resilient, accordian strip 9 having alternate fold lines 12 and ribs 11 fitted over the slat ends.
