Abstract
1,191,158. Continuous viscose production. FILMFABRIK WOLFEN VEB. 17 July, 1967, No. 32806/67. Heading C3A. Viscose is produced continuously from alkali cellulose by passing alkali cellulose 2 into the bottom of an upwardly inclined reactor 5 containing 20-80% by volume of CS 2 and at a rate sufficient to prevent escape of CS 2 by diffusion; passing it upwardly to a continuously operating controllable squeezing device, e.g. worm press 7, where excess CS 2 is removed; and kneading at 15 the squeezed material with NaOH, added continuously at 16 at a rate to yield 10-12% NaOH in the viscous product which is dissolved in water to give a spinnable solution. The apparatus is claimed per se. The alkali cellulose may be supplied by a pipe 4 of increasing cross-section, and be fed through the reactor by a worm 6. Excess CS 2 removed may be recycled via a heat exchanger 12. A pneumatic disc 13 may be used to control the squeezing pressure.
