Abstract
1,190,996. Measuring bridge circuits. SIPPICAN CORP. July 7, 1967 [July 11, 1966], No.31482/67. Heading G1U. A bridge circuit is such that when balanced, i.e. providing zero output, the current flow through it is inversely proportional to the resistance R I , e.g. that of a thermistor, being measured. The bridge supply current I is derived from the output of a differential feedback amplifier A whose input is supplied from the bridge output terminals. A reference voltage source E REF is connected in the bridge arm containing R X , in a direction opposing the voltage drop across R X due to the supply current. At the balance achieved by the operation of the feedback amplifier, <SP>1</SP>/ RX = <SP>I</SP>/2E REF , of the feedback amplifier, <SP>1</SP>/ RX = <SP>I</SP>/2E REF , so long as the reference arms R 1 , R 2 are equal <SP>I</SP>/ 2 flows through each bridge branch. A value proportional to <SP>I</SP>/ E REF is automatically determined by a separate servo-system driving the contact of potentiometer P1 to a position r such that the input to the servo amplifier, <SP>1</SP>/ 2 IR 2 - rE REF is zero, i. e. r = R2/2 I/E REF .
