Abstract

1,190,815. Cathode-ray tube circuits &c. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 16 May, 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 22642/67. Heading H4T. [Also in Division H1] A deflection system for a plural beam (e.g. in line three gun and red, green, blue) cathoderay tube comprises a deflection yoke 23 with vertical windings (89, 91) (Fig. 5, not shown) and horizontal windings (53, 55) (Fig. 4, not shown) on a truncated ferrite core (47) for example, to provide the main vertical and horizontal deflecting fields, the vertical and horizontal windings further including turns (93, 95, 97, 99 and 57, 59, 61, 63) to provide flux components perpendicular to the main vertical and horizontal fields respectively so that each beam produces a raster substantially parallel at all points to that produced by the other beams. The rasters may differ in size (Fig. 9, not shown). The horizontal size difference results from the correction forces overcoming parabolic errors and the vertical size differences mainly from gun misalignment. Vertical and horizontal static convergence and size correction assemblies 25, 27 may be energized by the sawtooth deflection currents applied directly to the size correction windings (184, 192 and 211, 213, 221 and 223 respectively) (Figs. 10 and 11, not shown), cylindrical ferrite magnets (183, 191 and 209, 219), diagonally polarized, being rotated to control the magnitude and polarity of the steady state field. Also the proximity of the C-shaped core members (179, 187 and 205, 215) to the internal polepieces (171, 173, 175, 177 and 201, 203) can be varied to control the field magnitude. Fourier series are disclosed corresponding to specific deflection yoke winding distributions. The deflection circuitry (Fig. 12) includes vertical output stage 33 with driver tube 233, vertical linearity control 243, output transformer 241 connected to first and second windings, 124 and 128, which are connected to size correction windings 184, 192 (also Fig. 10, not shown). The horizontal output stage 39 with driver tube 245 comprises a damping circuit including damping diode 261 to develop the sawtooth deflection circuit across the autotransformer. H.V. rectifier 269 is connected to a tertiary portion of the transformer to provide the C.R.T. high voltage. Secondary 271 is connected to deflection yoke windings 132, 136 and horizontal size correction windings 211, 213, 223 and 221.
