Abstract
1,190,661. Spray-producers. RANSBURG ELECTRO-COATING CORP. 10 May, 1967 [10 May, 1966]. No. 21643/67. Heading B2F. An electrostatic spray producer suitable for coating an article with a powdered material comprises a nozzle 16 provided with a passage extending through it, an inoculating deflector 33 supported on the nozzle by a helical spring 34 and adapted to spread a gas-powder suspension supplied through the nozzle passage, an eiectrode in the form of a conductive coating 37 of high electrical resistance on the outer surface of the nozzle body, and means 22-27 for establishing a high electric potential on said electrode with respect to the article to be coated. The coating 37 terminates forwardly at an edge coincident with the outer periphery of a frusto-conical surface 32 on the nozzle head 31. The surface 32 is so shaped that no portion of the nozzle extends beyond the plane of the outlet so as to avoid any accumulation of powder on the nozzle. The deflector and the spring offer substantially no distraction to the powder as it leaves the orifice. The deflector is axially adjustable.
