[Also in Division C3] Surfaces above the liquid phase, in apparatus for polymerisation processes using peroxide compounds as initiators incorporate a peroxide-decomposing substance to prevent deposits of the polymer resulting from condensation of the monomer and of the peroxide initiator. Preferably, the surfaces are coated with metallic platinum, in which case it is necessary to wet the surfaces prior to the polymerisation operation, or with manganese dioxide. The apparatus may be an enamelled autoclave with a water jacket and a reflex device of acid-resistant Cr-Ni-steel.
