Abstract

1,190,508. Valves. L. BECART. 9 Aug., 1968 [18 Aug., 1967], No. 38239/68. Heading F2V. A rotary spherical ball valve has the ball split obliquely at 12 into two hemispheres and is provided with a recess 11 in which an apertured wedge 13 is vertically movable to force the hemispheres into contact with the valve seats 4 or to permit them to move away from the seats under fluid pressure. The wedge is attached to a spindle 16 having grooves 21 thereon which grooves are engaged by teeth on the end of a lever 22 pivoted to a head 23 keyed at 24 to the spindle 16. Horizontal movement of the lever rotates the ball to open and close the valve while vertical pivoting movement of the lever 22 moves the wedge vertically. The wedge has a bottom notch (15) to render it slightly resilient and has an oval aperture 14 to operating with the bore 10 through the ball. The rotation of the ball is limited to 90 degrees by a stud (29) on the housing part 5 engaging abutments (30) on the head 23 so that the split 12 cannot engage either seat 4.
