Abstract

1,218,327. Valves. BABCOCK ATLANTIQUE. 19 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 9050/69. Heading F2V. Bearing surfaces 12, 13 of the seat and the closure member 10 which is rotatable about the eccentric axis 8 are formed as surfaces of revolution with coaxial axes 9, 14 in the valve closed position. The surface 12 may be conical or spherical and the surface 13 is spherical with a centre 15. The axis 8 which is transverse to the direction of flow is spaced equally from the centre 15 and the axis 9 and due to its eccentricity forces the surface 13 into contact with the seat surface 12 at the end of the valve closing movement. Two pivots (18), 19 on the closure member are journalled in bearing housings (20), 21 which are each formed with a curved surface 23 that abuts a surface 26 to allow rocking of the housings to facilitate alignment of the closure and seat bearing surfaces. A pin 30 locates each housing which is biased to a central position by a coil spring 32. The pivot 19 is formed with peripheral teeth 35 which are engaged by a rack 36 that is actuated manually, or by an electric or fluid motor. A bellows 44 seals the actuating rod in tube 39.
