Abstract

1,190,374. Filter networks. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 21 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29100/66. Heading H3U. An interference suppressor in the form of a low-pass filter network has a dissipative end section connected at one end of the network, the end section including an inductive series impedance having a conductance of the same order of magnitude as the reciprocal of the characteristic impedance of the network. As shown in Fig. 1 a T-section low-pass filter L, L, 2C has one of its inductances L shunted by a resistance R equal to the characteristic impedance #L/C. The resistance R is situated at that end of the filter remote from the noise source. In a ladder-type filter, Fig. 3, in which a noise source may be at either end each of the inductances L/2 is shunted by a resistance R where R = #L/C. A number of filters as in Fig. 1 may be connected in tandem (Fig. 2, not shown), the several filter sections having the same characteristic impedance but different cutoff frequencies to form a tapered filter. A structural embodiment of Fig. 1 is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown) in which two inductors, a resistor and a capacitor are mounted together to form a unitary structure. Instead of providing a separate resistor component one of the inductors possesses a substantial inherent shunt conductance.
