Abstract

[Also in Division G1] In a vehicle, a plurality of hydraulic jacks 5 support a body 1 on a chassis 2 and each jack 5 comprises a pair of pistons 6, 11 which define a pressure chamber 12 connected to a pressure gauge 8. The pistons 6 bear on brackets 7 secured to the body 1 and during a weighing operation fluid under pressure is supplied via pipes 9 to act on the pistons 11 whereby the body is lifted relative to the chassis 2, the consequential pressure in the chambers 12 being indicated by the gauges 8 and being indicative of the weight of the body 1 and its contents. In an alternative embodiment, the jacks are connected to a piston-type totalizing device which acts upon a single pressure gauge. The body 1 may be tiltable on the chassis 2 in which case a fluid-operable tilting ram 4 is provided at one end of the body and at the other end the body is pivotally mounted on supports 3 connected to the chassis, the supports being attached to slide bars (13) (Fig. 3, not shown) which during weighing operations allow the supports 3 to be lifted simultaneously with the body 1 relative to the chassis 2 but which during tipping operations are locked relative to the chassis 2 by a hand wheel 17 and pad 16 arrangement.
