Abstract

1,189,643. Teaching machines. M. S. STEELE. 2 April, 1967, No. 52997/65. Heading G5G. A teaching machine system similar to that described in Specification 1,189,642 includes common presentation means for presenting items of multi-choice question form of a branching programme to a student group, a plurality of student response units each arranged to indicate the correctness or incorrectness of a student's response to an item, and a control unit operably coupled with the presentation means and response units to control in response to at least some of the electrical signals the successive presentation of instructional items at a branching point in the programme. In one embodiment comprising a modified circuit of the form shown in Fig. 5 of the co-pending Application if a predetermined number of students answer a question correctly within a given time limit at a branching point a first branch is followed whereas otherwise a second branch is followed. An alternative embodiment describes a programme wherein a branching point is preceded by a number of items. If a predetermined number of students answer any of the items incorrectly one branch will be followed whereas otherwise another branch will be followed.
