Abstract

1,188,802. Targets. POLYTRONIC S.A. 2 May, 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 20387/67. Heading G4D. [Also in Division F3] A target for weapons discharging an electrically conductive projectile comprises at least a first and a second electrically conductive sheet 11, 12 spaced apart a distance less than the length of the projectile used and electrically insulated one from the other. The sheets 11, 12 cover the area defined by the target whereby during passage of a projectile therethrough, the projectile is simultaneously in momentary electrical contact with both of the first and second sheets. One sheet is maintained at a constant potential. One of the sheets is divided into a plurality of zones, each zone being spaced from the next by a distance less than the diameter of a projectile and being insulated from adjacent zones (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The zones and the other sheet are each connected to a separate terminal for connection to an indicating circuit. The sheets may be of metal preferably aluminium, or an elastomeric synthetic plastics material. The electrically insulating layer 10 is of sponge rubber or synthetic foam, the sheets and layer being secured together by an adhesive. Strips of electrically conductive rubber connect the sheets 11, 12 to the terminals respectively. A third electrically conductive sheet may be provided, the outer sheets being divided, one into the zones and the other into sectors, the intermediate sheet being continuous and maintained at a positive potential (Figs. 3, 4, 5, not shown). A projectile passing through such a target makes successively two circuits. Each zone and sector is connected to a circuit by which a receiver including a visual indicator, e.g. a counter and a printer, can compute the score of the shooter and the position, that is the position of the sector, which the projectile has penetrated. Such circuits are described in detail with reference to Figs. 6, 7, 8 (not shown). Also a signal may be fed into the circuit on the firing of a projectile (Fig. 8) to actuate part of the circuit.
