Abstract

1,188,780. Making turbine blades. BOHLER & CO. A.G. GEB. 27 May, 1968 [26 May, 1967], No. 25289/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F1] A method of making turbine blades comprising forming a blank with a recess in the area of the blade leading edge, welding a reinforcement into the recess, removing any unevenness caused by the welding, forging the blade to its final shape and finally heat treating it. The leading edge recess is formed either as the blank is forged or it may be made by machining or spark erosion. The reinforcement is secured by fusion welding and the welded blank may be tempered prior to the removal of unevenness by grinding. The blank is again heated before final forging, after which it is hardened after further heating. The blade is trued after hardening, to eliminate any distortion caused thereby, possibly after a levelling stroke in the finishing die after reheating to less than the tempering temperature. The welded-on reinforcement may be a highspeed tool steel or a hard alloy of the Co- Cr-W type.
