Abstract

1,188,628. Restraining devices; litters. J. K. VEASEY. 12 July, 1968, No. 33411/68. Headings A5R and A5X. A device for restraining a violent person comprises a generally rectangular flexible sheet 10 of leather, canvas, woven plastics or plastics sheet material, a pair of rigid rod-like members 12, 14 secured to the opposed ends of the sheet transversely thereof, and complementary quick fastening means located at the said ends whereby, in use, the ends are quickly fastened when the sheet is wrapped around the body of a person enabling the members 12, 14 to be brought together, and the ends rolled up to tighten the sheet. The fastening means may be provided by tapes 30, 34 of nylon having a plurality of tiny hooks and loops. The ends of the sheet are rolled up by rotating the members 12, 14 in contact with each other. Figs. 5A, 5B (not shown), cut out portions 16, 18 adjacent the ends of the sheet providing access to the central portions of the rigid members. Straps 40, 42 and eyes 44, 46 are secured to opposite ends of the sheet, and strap faced on its exterior with hook and loop tapes so that to secure the device. The straps are passed through their respective eyes, and doubled back upon themselves so as to engage the hooks and loops, any free length being passed through another pair of eyes 56, 58. Stays 26 .are also incorporated in pockets formed by folding over the top and bottom portions of the sheet 10. LITTERS. The device may be used as a litter, with members 12, 14 disposed forwardly rather than rearwardly in order to carry an injured person.
