Abstract

1,187,422. Clamps. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. 6 April, 1967 [24 Oct., 1966], No. 42729/69. Divided out of 1187421. Heading E2B. A fastener made of one piece of a plastics material .consists of a head and means 12 adapted to retain the fastener to an apertured workpiece 18; the head including a workpieceengaging portion 26, a wall portion 32 connected with a first margin of the workpieceengaging portion and deviating from the workpiece-engaging portion so as to provide a pocket between these two portions for accommodating elongated objects 30, and substantially rigid means 27, extending from a second margin of the workpiece-engaging portion opposite the first margins or margin, and forming a throat open towards the pocket for receiving a free extremity of the wall portion when the wall portion is bent; this throat-forming means including a first shoulder 33 spaced laterally from the engaging portion, there being a second shoulder 36 on the free extremity of the wall portion, the first shoulder being capable of engagement with the second shoulder to detachably retain the free extremity of the wall portion within the throat, the disposition of the throat and the wall portion being such as to ensure an interlocking relationship of the first and second shoulders when interengaged. The wall portion 32 includes a resilient tang 35 for urging the first and second shoulders into the interlocking relationship when cooperatively engaged with one another.
