Abstract

1,187,362. Polyurethanes - polyureas. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 12 Feb., 1968 [10 Feb., 1967], No. 6772/68. Heading C3R. Polyurethane-polyureas which are watersoluble are prepared by reacting a watersoluble reaction product of a water-soluble polyhydroxyl compound which contains at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and an excess of a diisocyanate compound, with an aqueous solution containing from 0À1 to 10% by weight of one or more polyfunctional amines containing aliphatically linked amine groups, the amount of the poly-functional amine being such as to provide a polyurethane polyurea having free amino groups. The water-soluble polyhydroxy compounds are suitably of the formula wherein R is an alkylene radical having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, Y is oxygen, sulphur, tertiary nitrogen or the radical of an at least difunctional hydroxy-alkylatable compound obtained by removal of H atoms from the functional groups, x is an integer of at least 1 and z is an integer of at least 2. Exemplified polyhydroxyl compounds are polyethylene glycol ethers, methyldiethanolamine and a polyaddition product derived from methyl diisopropanolamine and triethylene glycol. The water-soluble polyhydroxyl compounds are reacted with conventional diisooyanate optionally in the presence of a solvent which is preferably soluble with water or miscible in water. Exemplified amines which are reacted with the watersoluble reaction product are diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, bis-(3-aminopropyl) methylamine and N-2-hydroxyethyl ethylene diamine.
