Abstract

1,187,360. Powder metallurgy. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. March 28, 1968 [March 28, 1967; Feb.14, 1968], No.15048/68. Heading C7D. [Also in Divisions C1 and H1] A metallizing composition for screen-printing on ceramic dielectric comprises an inert vehicle having dispersed therein a powdered alloy consisting of at least three metals selected from Ru, Rh, Os, Ir, Pt, Pd, Ag, Au and Hg, each metal being present in an amount within the range 0À5 to 99% by weight. The inert vehicle, comprising 10 to 90% by weight of the composition, may be water, higher alcohol acetates or propionates, pine oil, α-or # terpineol, solutions of lower alcohol polymethylmethacrylates or ethyl cellulose or the monobutyl ether of ethylene glycol mono-acetate, and may include waxes or thermoplastic resins. The composition may further comprise 1 to 95% by weight of total solids of an inorganic binder, e.g. a glass frit consisting of e.g. lead borate, lead silicate, lead borosilicate, cadmium borate, lead-cadmium borosilicate, zinc borosilicate and sodium-cadmium borosilicate. A wetting agent such as bismuth oxide may be included. The alloy powders may be obtained by mixing acidic solutions of the metal chlorides, precipitating the hydroxides and reducing. The alloy and binder powders should have a particle size less than 40 microns.
