Abstract

1,187,256. Endless felts. SCAPA DRYERS Ltd. 2 Oct., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967], No. 46785/67. Heading D1R. A method of producing a non-woven endless felt comprises feeding a warp of yarns extending in the longitudinal direction of the felt, and a non-woven felt comprising a web needled to a warp, to a needling loom and needling the felt into a preselected length of warp, the length being the circumferential length of the desired endless felt, reintroducing the leading end of the needled fabric into the loom over or under the trailing warp to produce a further layer or layers of warp on the felt, and severing the trailing warp when the required strength is achieved, the method being characterised in that the warp yarns of the non-woven felt are inclined relative to the longitudinally extending warp and extend substantially from edge-to-edge of the longitudinal warp, and also in that the length of the applied non-woven, felt is substantially equal to the circumferential length of the endless felt. The warp yarns of the non-woven felt preferably extend at 45‹ to the longitudinally extending warp. The longitudinally extending warp may be incorporated in a non-woven felt comprising a web needled to a warp. In a preferred embodiment the density of warp yarns in the non-woven felt is less than the density of warp yarns in the longitudinally extending warp. One or more additional webs may be needled onto the endless felt.
