Abstract

1,186,675. Apparatus for treating curds and whey. UNIGATE CREAMERIES Ltd. 10 May, 1967 [11 May, 1966], No. 20978/66. Heading A2B. An apparatus for treating particulate curd and whey comprises at least two perforated or sieve-like drums, each being mounted for axial rotation at a slight inclination to the horizontal, the drums being independently rotated, these being means to guide curd from one drum to the other, means for introducing particulate curd and whey into one drum, and means for continuously introducing salt into the particulate curd as it flows through the apparatus first through one drum and then the other. A third perforated or sieve-like drum, also mounted for axial rotation at a slight inclination to the horizontal, and also independently rotated, may be provided between the first and second drums. Fig. 1 shows a suitable arrangement, curds and whey entering the apparatus via funnel 34. Each drum has an axial shaft 16 having mounted thereon arms 28 to stir the material therein. Whey is collected in trough 38.
