Saturated glycidyl esters and ethers are prepared by hydrogenation of olefinically or cycloolefinically unsaturated monoglyoidyl or polyglycidyl esters of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic monocarboxylic or polycarboxylic acids, or olefinically or cycloolefinically unsaturated monoglycidyl or polyglycidyl ethers of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic monoalcohols or polyalcohols, in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, preferably one based on nickel, platinum or palladium. Examples are given of the hydrogenation of #<SP>4</SP>-tetrahydrophthalic acid diglycidyl ester; linolic acid glycidyl ester; 3,6- endomethylene - #<SP>4</SP> - cyclohexene - 1,2 - dicarboxylic acid diglycidyl ester; #<SP>3</SP>-cyclohexene - 1,1 - dimethanol diglycidyl ether; #<SP>4</SP> - butene - 1,4 - diol - diglycidyl ether. Other possible starting materials are mentioned.
