A herbicidal composition comprises a herbicidally active alkyl N-phenylcarbamate or alkyl N-phenylthionocarbamate and a phenyl N-alkylcarbamate in an amount sufficient to extend the soil life of the alkyl-N-phenyl compound. A mineral acid such as phosphoric acid and an inorganic salt such as calcium chloride may also be present.
