Abstract

118,634. Graemiger, B. Aug. 31, 1917, [Convention date]. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.- Means for controlling the velocity of a flowing fluid comprise a member disposed in the path of the fluid and connected with a movable part of a pressure chamber, the pressure produced in the chamber being used to control the fluid velocity. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, an increase of velocity of air forced through a pipe 1 by a compressor moves a disk 2 and causes a disk 7 to throttle the entrance or exit of air to or from a chamber 8 connected to a chamber 12 with a supply pipe 9. The resulting increase of pressure causes a diaphragm 13 to so adjust a valve 16 that the speed of the engine driving the compressor is reduced. The spindle of the disk 7 is provided with a dash-pot device, comprising a disk 24 and communicating chambers containing oil.
