Abstract

1,186,208. Treating manganese ores. RUMANIA. MINISTRY OF INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS. 8 June, 1967, No. 26548/67. Heading C1A. Manganese ores containing manganese silicates and garnets are mixed with coke and either CaSO4, CaCO3 or CaO, so that the ratios C : Mn and CaO : Al2O3/SiO2 are between 1 and 2, the mixing being followed by calcination at 1000- 1300‹ C. until the manganese is converted into sulphide or oxide. Recovery may be effected using mineral acids or aqueous solutions of ammonium compounds. Three examples are given using each of the calcium compounds, a final recovery being done by sulphuric acid.
