Abstract

1,185,309. Hydraulic brakes and clutches; valves. GIRLING Ltd. 14 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29300/66. Headings F2F, F2L and F2V. In a reservoir for an hydraulic actuating system having a moisture barrier comprising a flexible diaphragm 1 capable of deforming to accommodate a degree of change in liquid level before any pressure drop is developed across the diaphragm, a one-way valve 3 is provided for admitting air to the reservoir when a predetermined pressure drop is developed. The diaphragm 1 may have the form of a generally flat disc with a thickened rim and a flexible pleat 6 formed concentrically therein, and a second one-way valve 4 may be formed in it to relieve excessive pressure. As an alternative, an independent one-way valve may be provided (Fig. 3, not shown); the diaphragm may also be of the bellows type (Fig. 4, not shown).
