Abstract

1,185,268. Fibrous polymer particles. KONINKLIJKE PAPIERFABRIEKEN VAN GELDER ZONEN N.V. 21 Oct., 1968, No. 49900/68. Heading C3P. A latex of a polymer containing carboxyl groups is mixed with an aqueous solution of a cationic polymeric substance to form a flocculate of pH 6-9 whereafter the fine particles are converted into fine fibrous particles by adjusting the pH of the mixture to 2-4 with stirring and adjusting the final solids content to 0À01- 10% by wt. In the examples a carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex is mixed with a cationic urea-formaldehyde preconcentrate and a copolymer of acrylic esters and itaconic acid is mixed with a cross-linked cationic polyamide. The fibrous particles may be mixed with synthetic fibres and water-laid to form non-woven fabrics.
