Abstract

1,184,922. Cosmetic compositions. LABORATOIRES RENE RAMBAUD. 31 March, 1967 [31 March, 1966], No. 14967/67. Heading A5B. Cosmetic compositions comprise an aqueous extract of tea together with conventional cosmetic excipients and/or an oily extract of tea optionally together with such excipients. The preferred composition consists of an emulsion of the oily extract and the aqueous extract. Excipients for the aqueous extract compositions may be alcohol and floral juices, or known oily ingredients, and the compositions may be in the form of lotions, foundation milk or cream, or anti-sunburn cream. Oily extracts may include lipophilic ingredients such as vegetable oils and fatty esters, and may take the form of an anti-wrinkle cream, a cleansing cream or a masking cosmetic. The aqueous extract is prepared by boiling powdered tea leaves with demineralised water, filtering off the leaves and making up the volume to provide I 1. of extract per 100 gs. tea. The oily extract is prepared by steeping powdered tea leaves in a neutral oil for five days, using 1 kgm. oil per 300 gs. tea, and then filtering off the tea. Suitable oils are liquid paraffin, isopropyl myristate, perhydrosqualene or a polyglycol.
