Abstract

1,184,583. Loom stop motions. HEBERLEIN & CO. A.G. 31 May, 1967 [31 May, 1966; 11 May, 1967], No. 25194/67. Heading D1E. A weft stop motion for a loom comprises an electro-mechanical transducer mounted in the shuttle of a loom which is set into vibration by the unwinding of the weft from its spool and applies voltage to an inductive circuit which by an inductive coupling controls a detector circuit on the loom to generate a signal for stopping the loom if the weft breaks. As shown in Fig. 1 a resilient rod 5 engaged and vibrated by the running weft 7 is coupled by member 6 to a piezoelectric crystal 2 which generates a voltage which is applied to an oscillatory circuit (Fig. 2) which is housed in the base 1. This circuit comprises in addition to the piezo-electric crystal 2 a variable capacitance diode 8, a resistance 9, a capacitor 10 and an inductor coil 11. A detector circuit which may be mounted on the sley comprises, Fig. 3, a high-frequency generator 12 which through a resistance 13 causes a resonant circuit 14 to oscillate. An inductor coil 20 of the latter is connected to a demodulator 15 to give a fixed D.C. voltage output U when the shuttle is not in the vicinity of the detector. The impedance of the resonant circuit 8-11 varies in accordance with whether or not the rod 5 and piezoelectric crystal 2 are vibrating and accordingly, as the shuttle passes the detector, a variation in the reaction with detector circuit is obtained giving a variation in the output U which is utilised as a signal to stop the loom when the weft is broken. Instead of the piezoelectric crystal 2 other electro mechanical transducers can be used such as vibrating contacts in a resistance circuit or a magnet vibrating in a coil. Other alternative oscillatory and detector circuits are also described.
