Abstract
1,184,046. Cycloheptimidazoles. SANKYO CO. Ltd., and KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 17 March, 1967 [19 March, 1966], No. 12578/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] Compounds of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, halogen or a C 1-5 alkyl a cyano or a dialkylamino group, and R<SP>2</SP> is an unsubstituted phenyl or pyridinium group or an alkyl-, halo-, nitro-, alkoxy-, carbamoyl- or alkoxycarbonyl-substituted pyridinium group or a nitro-, halo-, amino-, dialkylamino-, alkyl- or alkoxy-substituted phenyl group, are made by reacting a tropolone of the formula where X is halogen or methoxy with an amidine HN=C(NH 2 )R<SP>2</SP>, where R<SP>2</SP> is optionally substituted phenyl, or by a quaternization process, when R<SP>2</SP> is optionally substituted pyridinium, e.g. by reacting a 2-halo-cycloheptimidazole with a pyridine. A number of substituted and unsubstituted cycloheptimidazoles, which are photographic desensitizers, are described (see Division G2).
