[Also in Division D1 A method of applying a protective coating of wax to a coated or otherwise treated surface of metal strip comprises passing the strip through the nip between a pair of squeeze rollers, pressing a block of wax against the surface of one of the rollers over the full width of the roller which comes into contact with the coated or otherwise treated surface of the strip and heating the roller to a temperature at which it melts the surface of the block of wax and picks up a layer of molten wax and deposits it on the strip as the roller rotates. The wax may be a polyethylene glycol wax.
