Abstract

1,182,046. Frequency measurement. AHREND-VAN GOGH N.V. 8 Nov., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 53040/68. Heading H3A. In a frequency measuring system, a capacitor 6 is charged by a constant current source 7, and is discharged by each impulse of a series to be measured, so that a sawtooth voltage occurs across the capacitor, of which the amplitude is proportional to the time interval between successive impulses, and from which a direct voltage is derived at 21 which is inversely proportional to the repetition frequency to be measured. A pulse generator 37, 38, Fig. 2, has its frequency modulated by this voltage, and its output is used to discharge a second capacitor 43 charged from a second constant current source 44 to produce a second sawtooth from which a direct voltage is derived which is inversely proportional to the frequency of the pulse generator, and which is thus directly proportional to the input frequency to be measured. In order to provide a smooth direct voltage at 21 from very low-frequency signals the voltage is smoothed by two capacitors 16, 17 alternately switched into circuit by a bi-stable 25 controlled from the input.
