Abstract

1,181,365. Lining tunnels. TAYLOR WOODROW CONSTRUCTION Ltd. 16 Feb., 1968 [18 Nov., 1966], No. 51830/66. Heading E1F. Apparatus for erection of tunnel lining sections from blocks or slabs comprises an arched support 12 on which slabs for the central portion of the arch of a lining section can be assembled (as in the left hand half of the figure), means-for example hydraulic jacks 10 - for raising the support to bring the slabs into position in the tunnel (as in the right hand half of the figure) and side supports 14 at the two ends of the arched support for inserting slabs to complete the roof arch. The side supports may be pivoted to the arched support as shown or slidably mounted. The carrier 8 of the supports may be mounted in a rotatably adjustable manner on the rear of a tunnel excavating shield driven forward by rams acting against the lattermost lining section. Alternatively the carrier 8 may be advanced independently along a track laid in the tunnel. After the roof slabs have been raised, the lower slabs are laid and portable hydraulic rams are inserted in gaps 19 between the lower and upper slabs. The rams are removed from gaps 19 after cement has set therein.
