Abstract
1,181,231. Photo-electric detectors. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 9 Feb., 1967 [16 Feb., 1966; 20 May, 1966], Nos. 6701/66 and 22515/66. Heading H1D. [Also in Division G1] A photo-electrically sensitive device comprises a window 20 having a first surface for receiving incident radiation and a second surface 22, 23 supporting photo-electrically sensitive material at least in part 23 inclined to the first surface at such an angle that incident radiation which passes through the window and said material is totally internally reflected at the surface of the material remote from the window on to further sensitive material. The window forms part of an evacuated photo-cell. The surfaces 22, 23 form prismatic elements 21 arranged concentrically or parallel, the elements may be conical or pyramidal. The window may form part of a TV pick-up tube or a photomultiplier including a venetian blind dynode type image intensifier. In one embodiment the window comprises a triangular prism with photo-cells attached to two sides.
