Abstract

1,180,697. Friction clutches. BENDIX CORP. 25 Nov., 1968, No. 55768/68. Headings F2C and F2U. The coil and magnet assembly 40, 42, 44 of an electromagnetically controlled clutch is non- rotatably supported by an annular sheet-metal member 46 having some flexibility in the axial direction of the clutch. A hub section 50 of the member 46 has an annular ridge 52 which engages a housing wall 62, the hub section also being provided with three spring fingers 54 which bear against the inner race 18 of a bearing 14 for a torque transmitting member 10. A tab 56 of the member 46 extends axially beyond the ridge 52 to restrain the member 46 against rotation and to provide a guide for wire 58 to the coil 40. Flexibility of the member 46 permits slight deflection of the member against the wall 62 when the race 18 has been located by a snapring 66 which also provides easy removal of the clutch for service. An input drive consists of a V-belt member 20, 22 secured to the torque member 10 which, together with a second torque member 12, includes flux-conducting material. Spring members 24 attached to the torque member 12 provide disengagement spring bias and are attached, by a rubber ring 30, to a drive spider 32. A member 34 is secured to the spider and provides drive to a shaft 38.
