Abstract

1,180,556. Purification of acrylonitrile. COURTAULDS Ltd. 19 June, 1967 [20 June, 1966], No. 27363/66. Heading C2C. Colour-forming impurities, including oxazole, are removed from acrylonitrile made by reacting propylene with ammonia by passing the acrylonitrile through a strong acid macroreticular ionexchange resin. A preferred type of resin is a macroreticular sulphonic acid cation exchange resin. The macroreticular resin employed has a specific surface area of at least 35 square metres per gram.
