Abstract

1,180,137. Automatic brake adjusters. NIPPON AIR BRAKE CO. Ltd. 30 Nov., 1967 [17 May, 1967], No. 54682/67. Headings F2E and F2F. An automatic brake clearance adjusting hydraulic cylinder comprises: a piston 2; a bar 4 having one end 4a screwed into the piston, and the other end forming a detent member 4b ; and an annular rotatable element 6 having an oblique groove 6a, Fig. 2, which engages with a pin 5 and a detent surface 6b which co-operates with the surface 4b. When the brake clearance exceeds the permitted limit the lateral movement of the element 6 causes it to rotate sufficiently to turn bar 4 and advance the piston sufficiently to compensate.
