Abstract

1,180,114. Maintaining uniform winding pressure. S. TORII and H. ISHIKAWA. 21 Feb., 1967 [30 April, 1966], No. 8140/67. Heading D1J. In each winding unit of a multi-unit apparatus for winding yarn onto a cop holder 1 mounted for rotation with a spindle the winding pressure between a roller bail 16 and the package is maintained uniform as the package diameter increases by causing movement of the package away from the roller along a guide rail 5 and the rotational speed of the spindle is regulated so that the supply point of the yarn onto the packages moves at a constant speed as the package diameter increases, the regulation of the rotational speed being dependent on the movement of the package away from the roller bail. A device for maintaining the winding pressure uniform A counter weight 8 (Figure 3) secured to lever 9 extending outwards from a bracket 10 pivotally attached by rod 11 to an arm 12, acts as a balance weight for defining the winding pressure. The winding pressure is defined by a counterclockwise torque of the bracket 18, which supports the spindle, around a shaft 19 and a clockwise torque of the connecting arm 12, which is rigidly connected with bracket 18 through shaft 19, about shaft 19 by weight 8. Asthe package size increases both the counterclockwise torque and the clockwise torque increase and overcome the winding pressure between the bail 16 and the package, so causing a device 4 connected to the bracket 18 and spindle to shift along the rail 5 in the clockwise direction. The device 4 (Figure 4) includes two inclined plates 34 and 35 on either side of the rail which define tapered spaces 38, 39 in which spring urged balls 36 and 37 are positioned. Normally the balls are pushed flush against the rail, so preventing backward sliding of the device 4 down the rail 5, but at the end of a winding operation, operation of push rods 45, 46 by handles 77a cause balls 36, 37 to be pushed down out of contact with rail 5, to allow for backward sliding movement down the rail. A device for regulating the rotational speed of the cop holder The counterclockwise turning of the bracket 18 as the passage size increases is transmitted to a lever 58 (Figure 8) through the engagement of a roll 56 with a programming cam, such that the lever 58 also turns counterclockwise. This causes a connecting rod 60 to shift upwards and a bracket 63 to turn clockwise around a shaft 66, so shifting the position of a motor shaft 62 downward. This causes the driving ratio of the vari-pitch sheave mechanism 68, 69, 70 to be lowered and hence the rotational speed of a cam box driving shaft 20 which drives the spindle. The driving shaft 20 also controls the movement of a thread traversing device 15.
