Abstract

In a method of installing a screw fitting for joining a tube 7 to a screwed boring 6, there is provided a connecting sleeve 1 of synthetic plastics, e.g. a polyamide, having an axial boring for the reception of the tube and, at the leading end thereof, an external screwthread at least a part of the remaining shank portion of the sleeve being greater in diameter than the boring 6; the degree of widening of the shank is such that when the sleeve is screwed into the boring so that the upper section of the tube is evenly radially compressed, the said shank portion is cut with a thread and radially compressed and heated by friction so that the portion of the sleeve adjoining the thread and/or the tube melts to a thickness of 2-50 microns and the fluid film thus formed hardens after screwing in of the sleeve to form a homogeneous connection between the sleeve and thread and the boring and the sleeve and the tube. The latter may have a flange 8.
