A patient supporting table comprising a surface e.g. 1 adapted to be tilted in either direction about a horizontal axis transverse to the length of the surface into a vertical position is characterized in that a vertical wall or web 5 having ends that curve upwardly from the bottom edge to the supporting surface extends longitudinally of the surface, rests on two support points which are formed by mechanically driven rollers 6 and 7 and is slotted, e.g. at 18, so that a third support 17, provided at a point higher than the two rollers and equidistant from them projects into or through the slot and shifts along the slot during tilting movements of the table. The slot preferably extends rectilinearly on either side of the position of the third support when the table is horizontal towards those points on the wall or web which are at the intersection of lines perpendicular to and parallel to the supporting surface, said lines being spaced from the position of the driven roller when the surface is in a vertical position by a distance equal to the difference in height between the rollers and the third supporting point and a distance equal to half the distance between the rollers respectively. The ends of the vertical wall or web are preferably quadrants of a circle and the rollers and wall interact through mutual toothing 4 on both surfaces. As is seen from the Figure, the surface 1 preferably has two webs 5 and the third supporting point is constituted by a pair of pillars 2, 3 supporting a bar 17 which passes between them. It should be noted that this bar may be replaced by stub pivots on pillars 2 and 3. The rollers are driven by motor 8 through gearing 9, pulleys 12 and 14 with belt 13, and axles 11 and 15.
