Abstract

1,179,941. Valves. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD SANITARY CORP. 2 Feb., 1967, No. 5025/67. Heading F2V. A valve, for mixing hot and cold water, comprises a brass valve body 40 and, removably secured to it, a plastics valve cartridge 50 housing all the moving valve components and consisting of a body 55 and a cap 60 welded to it. Fluid inlet and outlet passages (43a, Fig. 26, not shown), 43b and 45, respectively, are formed within the valve body 40, the inlet passages being circumferentially spaced from each other and also spaced from the outlet passage which extends substantially axially through the body before joining an outlet nozzle tube 37. Control of fluid is by way of two ceramic discs 70 and 80, the former being fixed against rotational movement within the cartridge and having shaped apertures aligned with the inlet and outlet passages and the latter being rotatably and slidably movable with respect to the former and having formed in its flat underface an elongated and generally oval recess 81. A handle 34 is pivotally mounted, by means of a stainless steel pin 95, within a plastic pivot race 85 which itself is rotatable within the cartridge body but fixed against axial movement in one direction by integral flanges which engage the underside of cartridge cap 60, and inhibited from axial movement in the other direction by tubular rubber inserts 65a, 65t bearing on the valve body 40 and engaging the fixed disc 70. Pivotal movement of the handle brings the inlets, via recess 81, into the desired degree of communication with the outlet whilst rotational movement of the same, which may be effected before the pivoted movement, serves to vary the ratios of hot and cold water flowing to the outlet. A cup-shaped casing 100 surrounds the valve and is finished off by a cap 110 secured to, and movable with, the handle.
