Abstract

1,179,716. Road traffic signals on vehicles. PARKINSON RADIOTELECOMMUNICATIONS Ltd. 29 July, 1968 [27 July, 1967], No. 34488/67. Heading G4Q. [Also in Division F4] A flashing beacon comprises a plurality of lenses each illuminated by two lamps rotating about a vertical axis, the beams of light being differently coloured or passing through coloured lenses and means for illuminating one or more of the lamps at a time to provide a flashing beam of the predetermined colour or colours. A plurality of lamps a<SP>5</SP> are provided in two, three or four housings A which are mounted on a spindle a<SP>2</SP> driven by motor, a<SP>3</SP>. The reflectors are covered .by a plastic dome B which is secured to housing a<SP>4</SP> in a water-tight manner at b. The housing is provided with magnets c and resilient washers c<SP>1</SP> to secure the beacon to the roof of a vehicle. Alternatively the beacon may be affixed using bolts or screws and have a shaped washer to provide a watertight seal. The power supply for the beacon is led in through brushes b<SP>4</SP>, b<SP>5</SP> and rings b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP>. The lenses and/or the reflectors may be blue, red, amber or combinations thereof. The housings A may be replaced by sealed beam units. Switches are provided for controlling the rotation of the beacon and the selection of the particular lamp or lamps required.
