Abstract
1,179,681. Distillation apparatus; solar heating. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. 28 Sept., 1967 [5 July, 1966], No. 493/66. Heading B1B. [Also in Division F4] A heat exchanger utilizing solar radiation for heating liquids or to act as a solar still comprises a small bore tube 10 in the form of coils are convolutions and of material capable of radiating absorbed solar heat or infra-red rays and having means to minimise heat loss from the tube. The means may comprise a base plate 11 of insulating material to reduce heat loss from the rear of the tube or at least part of the tube length is located in a trough which comprises a reflector to both reflect and insulate. The tube may be connected to a still 16, the heated liquid falling onto a gauze pad 15 therein from which it evaporates to condense on the inside surface of the still 16 to be collected in a gutter 17. In a further modification the coil may be housed in an evaporating and condensing chamber of clear plastics material which allows the passage of solar radiation.
