Abstract

1,179,678. Cutting tools. CARMET CO. 5 July, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 26858/68. Heading B3T. A cutting tool 10 comprises an indexable and reversible cutting insert 14 which is secured to shank member 12 by a screw 16, the insert having a hub portion 20 from which a plurality of projecting portions 22, 24, 26 extend radially, each portion having a peripheral edge 28 and cutting edges 30, 32 extending transversely thereto one on each side of a radial line intersecting the peripheral edge. The number of cutting edges is double the number of projections, each projection being substantially identical in size and shape. A support element 34 which is secured to the shank 12 has a pair of angularly disposed bearing surfaces 40, 42 which co-operate with adjacent cutting surfaces of two successive projections to accurately determine the position of the insert on the shank.
