Abstract

1,179,106. Removing vapours of halogenated hydrocarbon solvents from air. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Sept., 1967 [15 Sept., 1966], No. 41304/66. Heading B1R. The vapours of volatile halogenated hydrocarbon solvents are removed from air containing them by scrubbing the air in a packed column with a non-volatile absorbent. Solventcontaining absorbent may be removed from the base of the column and treated with steam in a stripling zone to recover solvent and solvent free absorbent, the latter being recycled to the packed column. The solvent removed from the air may be a chloro-ethylene and the absorbent may be a hydrocarbon or a mineral oil or a white spirit and preferably has a boiling point at least 25‹C above the boiling point of the solvent to be removed or any azeotropic mixture of such solvent and water. A cationic surface active agent may be added to the absorbent.
