Abstract

1,179,093. Flame drilling. TETRONICS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. 26 Jan., 1967 [27 Jan., 1966 (2)], Nos. 3812/66 and 3813/66. Heading E1F. The source of the thermal and radiant energy applied to rock being penetrated by a "flame drill" is superatmospheric pressure, high current, constricted arc plasma that issues onto to the rock from a nozzle structure such as that of the referred to Specification 1177941. Reamer and/or cutter teeth are provided on the drill for breaking up the rock heated by the plasma.
